— The hotel
Urban Oasis
You know what really caught me off guard about Urban Oasis? The name actually makes sense – and I mean that in the best way possible. I was expecting some generic marketing nonsense, but walking into this place on Tērbatas iela, there’s genuinely this calm, almost zen-like feeling that hits you right away. The lobby’s got these warm wood tones and soft lighting that immediately makes you forget you’re literally steps away from one of Riga’s busiest streets. Honestly, the soundproofing is incredible – I was worried about traffic noise since Tērbatas can get pretty hectic, especially during rush hour, but once you’re inside? Nothing.
The location is actually perfect if you know Riga at all. You’re basically equidistant from Old Town and the Art Nouveau district, which means you can walk to Berga Bazārs for coffee in the morning and still make it to the Freedom Monument for sunset photos without breaking a sweat. Plus – and this is something most hotels in this area can’t offer – there’s actually decent parking nearby. Not cheap, mind you, but available, which if you’ve ever tried to park in central Riga, you know is basically a miracle. The staff seems to really get that visitors aren’t just here for the typical tourist stuff either. They pointed me toward this little Georgian restaurant on nearby Blaumaņa iela that I never would’ve found otherwise, and well, let’s just say I ended up eating there three times during my stay.
What really sets this place apart though is the attention to those little things that actually matter when you’re traveling. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes (shocking, I know), the shower pressure is exactly what you hope for after a long day of walking on cobblestones, and the beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand. I mean, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect a spa or fancy restaurant, but they’ve clearly put thought into making sure everything they do have works properly. The rooms are clean in that “actually clean” way, not just “looks clean from a distance” way, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. Check-in was smooth too – no weird deposit holds or surprise fees, just straightforward and friendly service. If you’re looking for somewhere to crash that won’t drain your budget but also won’t make you question your life choices, this is honestly one of the better options in the area. That 9.6 rating isn’t just people being nice – it’s earned.
