BRIVIBAS RESIDENCE – WAVE, free PRIVAT parking, free WIFI, self check-in
So, I just got back from a stay at BRIVIBAS RESIDENCE – WAVE, and I had to tell you all about it. The first thing that caught my eye was the free parking – no one in the city does that these days – tucked right behind the building on Brīvības gatve. Picture a quiet little garage that doesn’t charge a dime, which is a huge relief after the usual parking chaos around the old town. They also hand out a key card at a self‑check‑in kiosk that’s actually pretty slick: no line, no front‑desk chatter, just a touch‑screen, a beep, and you’re in. The lobby smells faintly of fresh coffee, and the staff are quick but warm; you can tell they’ve seen the same guests over and over.
The room itself is a cosy 11 square meters of comfort that feels oddly roomy because of the high ceilings. I mean, the bed is a little narrow – you’re not getting a king size, but the mattress is a solid 3‑star feel, and the pillows are the kind of plump that make you want to stay in bed until the next morning. Free Wi‑Fi is a plus – no mystery fees, no buffering when I tried streaming a Latvian film. The noise is a mild city buzz; you can hear the Lielupe river and the occasional bus, but the walls are thick enough that it doesn’t feel like a tin can. The bathroom is compact, but the shower is surprisingly generous – just a splash of water and you’re ready. I did notice a faint mildew smell after the rain, but it faded quickly when I opened the window.
A few minutes’ walk takes you to the Freedom Square, where the old city’s cobblestones meet modern street art – the kind of place that feels like a living postcard. You’ll also find the Riga Central Market not far off – the vendors there are a riot of color and
