M4 Studio Apartments
You know what struck me first about M4 Studio Apartments? The fact that it’s tucked away on Marijas iela in this quietly hip part of Rīga that most tourists completely miss. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Central Market (those massive old Zeppelin hangars), but the street itself has this residential calm that’s honestly hard to find in the city center. The building itself is one of those beautifully restored early 20th century structures – nothing flashy, just solid and well-maintained with that understated elegance Rīga does so well.
The studios themselves are actually thoughtfully designed, which sounds like marketing speak but I mean it. Whoever set these up clearly stayed in bad apartments before because they got the details right. The kitchenette isn’t just decorative – you can actually cook a proper meal, and there’s enough counter space to prep food without feeling like you’re playing Tetris. The wifi is solid (I spent a week working from there), and the beds are firm without being concrete blocks. What really impressed me was the sound insulation – Marijas iela isn’t exactly a highway, but you still get some traffic, and honestly, I barely noticed it with the windows closed. The whole place just feels… competent, I guess? Like someone thought through what travelers actually need rather than what looks good in photos.
Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you – you’re right in this sweet spot where locals actually live and work. There’s a fantastic little café called Folkklubs ALA Pagrabs just around the corner (well, it’s technically underground, but you’ll figure it out), and the morning walk to Old Town takes you past some genuinely beautiful Art Nouveau buildings that aren’t swarmed with tour groups. The tram stop on Marijas is super convenient for getting around, and if you’re flying out of RIX, the airport bus route is straightforward. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – it’s mostly street parking in the area, but honestly, you probably don’t need a car anyway. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’re there because it’s one of those places that just works without any drama. Check-in was smooth, everything was clean, and when I had a minor issue with the heating, they sorted it out within hours. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but for a 3-star place, it punches well above its weight.
