Stylish Latvian Classic 1-Bedroom Apartment Near City Center, Parks & Public Transport Links
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of Riga apartments over the years, and this one on Pērnavas iela really surprised me in the best way. You know how sometimes a place looks decent online but then you walk in and it’s just… meh? Well, this was the opposite. The moment I opened the door, I actually said “oh wow” out loud – and I’m not usually that person. The apartment has this perfect balance of classic Latvian charm (think gorgeous hardwood floors and high ceilings that make you feel like you’re in a pre-war film) mixed with modern touches that actually work.
What really sold me was the location, honestly. Pērnavas iela is one of those streets that locals know but tourists often miss – you’re close enough to the Old Town that you can walk there in about 15 minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling around at 2 AM. There’s this little park right around the corner where I’d grab my morning coffee and watch the locals walking their dogs, and the public transport connections are genuinely excellent. I mean, the tram stop is literally a three-minute walk, and from there you can get pretty much anywhere in the city without thinking twice about it. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel too – real bakeries, small groceries, the kind of places where the staff starts recognizing you after a few days.
The apartment itself is what I’d call “thoughtfully designed” without being overly fancy. The bedroom is surprisingly spacious (I could actually open my suitcase fully without rearranging furniture), and the living area has this great natural light that makes everything feel bigger than it is. The kitchen is small but functional – I made proper meals there, not just instant noodles. One thing that really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night, which is rare for city center apartments. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional tram, but it’s more of a gentle rumble than anything disruptive. The building itself has character – those thick walls and solid doors that remind you this place has stories to tell. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that running around the city to collect keys nonsense. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but it delivers exactly what it promises and then some. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a temporary home rather than just a place to crash, this is it.
