Old town Loft duplex, 24h7d self check in Loft
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The moment I walked up to 11 Vecpilsētas iela, I realized I was about to stay in one of those converted Old Town buildings that somehow manages to feel both ancient and surprisingly modern. The whole self check-in thing had me a bit nervous initially – I mean, what if the code doesn’t work at 11 PM? – but honestly, it’s kind of liberating not having to make small talk with a desk clerk when you just want to drop your bags and explore.
The duplex layout is actually brilliant, and I say this as someone who’s stayed in plenty of cramped European “lofts” that are basically just studio apartments with high ceilings. This one gives you real space to breathe. The downstairs area becomes your living space where you can spread out maps of Rīga (or more likely, charge all your devices), while upstairs feels properly separate for sleeping. Walking around Old Town from here, you’re literally in the heart of everything – Dome Square is maybe a three-minute walk, and you can hear the church bells in the morning, which sounds romantic but isn’t too loud if you’re a light sleeper. The cobblestone streets right outside can get a bit echoey when groups of tourists pass by, especially on weekend evenings, but that’s just Old Town life.
What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep the historical character while making everything actually functional. The building itself has that weathered Baltic charm – thick walls that keep things quiet and cool even in summer – but inside, the WiFi works perfectly and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the Rimi down on Audēju iela instead of eating out every meal. Speaking of eating out, you’re ridiculously close to some of the best spots in the city. I found myself walking to Folkklubs Ala Pagrabs for drinks without even thinking about it, and the morning coffee runs to Miit Coffee actually became part of my routine. The whole area feels safe to wander at any hour, which matters when you’re staying somewhere with 24/7 access. Parking can be tricky if you’re driving – Old Town isn’t really made for cars – but honestly, once you’re settled in here, you won’t need one anyway. The tram stops are close enough, and most of what you came to see in Rīga is within walking distance. It’s one of those places where the location just makes sense the longer you stay.
