Gleznotaju Old Town Two Bedroom Apartment
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from an apartment rental on Riharda Vāgnera iela, but this place actually surprised me. The Gleznotaju Old Town Two Bedroom Apartment sits right in the heart of Rīga’s historic center, and I mean *right* in it – you can practically hear the cobblestones telling stories from your window. The building itself has that distinctly Latvian character, with those thick walls that keep things surprisingly quiet despite being surrounded by all the Old Town action. When I first walked up (there’s no elevator, just so you know), I was struck by how the narrow staircase opens up into this genuinely spacious two-bedroom setup that feels way more generous than most European city apartments.
The thing that really got me was how thoughtfully it’s set up for people who actually plan to *live* there for a few days, not just crash. The kitchen has real plates and proper coffee cups – not those tiny hotel things that make you feel like you’re drinking from a thimble. There’s a washing machine tucked away, which honestly saved my trip since I’d packed terribly. The bedrooms are decent sized, and the main one gets lovely morning light that filters through those old-style windows. I mean, the furniture isn’t going to win any design awards, but it’s comfortable and functional in that no-nonsense way that makes you feel settled rather than like you’re camping out. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed – hot water was consistent, which isn’t always a given in these old buildings.
What I really appreciated was the location’s balance. You’re close enough to Doma laukums that you can wander over for morning coffee without planning an expedition, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with bachelor party groups stumbling past your window at 3 AM. The little grocery store on the corner – I think it’s called Rimi Express – becomes your best friend for picking up basics, and there’s this fantastic bakery about two blocks away that locals actually use (you’ll spot it by the line of people who clearly aren’t tourists). Parking’s tricky, as it is everywhere in Old Town, but there’s a paid lot within walking distance if you’re driving. The 8.2 rating feels about right to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid, clean, and genuine. For the price point and the authentic Old Town experience, I’d definitely book it again, especially if I was traveling with someone who wanted their own space but didn’t want to shell out for two hotel rooms.
