BRIVIBAS RESIDENCE – SUNSET, free PRIVAT parking, free WIFI, self check-in
You know what caught me off guard about Brivibas Residence? The name makes it sound way fancier than it actually is – and I mean that in the best possible way. This isn’t some stuffy hotel where you’re worried about dripping coffee on the marble floors. It’s more like staying at a friend’s really well-organized apartment, except your friend happens to live right on Brīvības gatve, which honestly is one of the most useful streets in Riga if you’re trying to get anywhere.
The whole self check-in thing had me skeptical at first (I’m one of those people who likes knowing there’s a human around if something goes wrong), but it actually worked perfectly. They send you all the codes ahead of time, and the entrance is right there – no wandering around looking for some hidden side door like you get with some of these newer places. And can we talk about the parking situation? Because finding free parking in Riga is basically like finding a unicorn, especially anywhere near the center. The private parking here is tucked away behind the building, and there’s always been a spot when I’ve needed one. I’ve stayed here during both the crazy summer months when every tourist in Europe seems to descend on the Baltics, and during those gray February days when you question all your life choices – never had an issue.
The location is actually pretty clever if you think about it. You’re far enough out that you’re not dealing with the weekend party crowds stumbling around Vecrīga at 3 AM, but close enough that you can walk to the Daugava riverbank in about fifteen minutes if you want to clear your head. There’s a Rimi supermarket maybe five minutes away on foot, which saved me multiple times when I realized I’d forgotten phone chargers or wanted to grab some of that dark rye bread that’s impossible to find back home. The wifi is solid too – I’ve done video calls for work without any of those awkward freezing moments that make everyone stare at their screens wondering if they should hang up. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the neighborhood gets a bit quiet after dark, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Especially if you’re planning to spend your days walking around the Old Town anyway and just want somewhere reliable to crash at night.
