Amazing Old apt town with Balcony
You know what really got me about this place? The moment I stepped onto that balcony and saw the cobblestones of Mārstaļu iela stretching out below – honestly, it felt like I’d stumbled into one of those European postcards, except this was actually real and I was living in it for a week. The apartment sits right in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, and I mean *right* in it – you’re basically surrounded by medieval architecture that’s somehow still standing after all these centuries. The building itself has that weathered charm you only get from places that have seen some history, and while it’s definitely not a fancy hotel (we’re talking 3 stars here), there’s something refreshingly authentic about staying somewhere that feels like actual locals might live there.
The balcony is honestly the star of the show – I spent way too many mornings out there with my coffee, watching the early tourists start their wandering before the crowds really hit. Mārstaļu street isn’t one of the main tourist drags, which means you get this nice balance of being walkable to everything but not dealing with constant noise. Well, except for the occasional group stumbling back from the bars late at night, but that’s Old Town for you. Inside, the apartment has that slightly eclectic feel of someone’s actual home – the furniture doesn’t all match perfectly, but everything works and it’s comfortable enough. The kitchen was better equipped than I expected, which saved me some serious money on meals (because let’s be honest, eating out for every meal in tourist areas gets expensive fast).
What I really appreciated was how walkable everything was from here – the House of the Blackheads is maybe a five-minute stroll, and you can easily wander over to the Freedom Monument or duck into one of those tiny cafés tucked into the side streets. The check-in was pretty straightforward, though I did have to coordinate with the owner via text since there’s no front desk situation. Parking is… well, it’s Old Town, so forget about parking right outside, but there are some options within walking distance if you absolutely need a car. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect (the WiFi was a bit spotty, and the shower could’ve used more pressure), but for the price and location, it delivers exactly what you’d want from a genuine Old Town experience. I mean, you’re not getting room service or a concierge, but you are getting to fall asleep to the sound of footsteps on centuries-old stones, and honestly? That’s worth way more than some generic hotel amenities.
