Big Design Apt – Sleeps 12 – Best Location
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The moment I stepped inside, I completely forgot I was in an apartment building on Blaumaņa iela. The design work here is honestly impressive – not in that Instagram-perfect way that makes you afraid to touch anything, but more like someone who actually knows what they’re doing put real thought into making a space work for twelve people without feeling cramped or chaotic.
The location is genuinely fantastic, and I mean that in the most practical sense. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Freedom Monument, which sounds touristy but actually means you’re right in the sweet spot where you can walk to Old Town for dinner (skip the tourist traps and head to Folkklubs AKA Noma for late-night food), then stumble home without dealing with taxis or trying to figure out public transport. The building itself sits on one of those tree-lined streets that makes Riga feel more like a cozy European city than a capital – you’ll hear some street noise during the day, but it’s the good kind, people actually living their lives rather than construction or traffic chaos.
What really works here is how they’ve handled the space for larger groups. I’ve stayed in plenty of places that claim to sleep twelve but basically just throw air mattresses everywhere and call it a day. This actually feels intentional – the common areas are big enough that you’re not constantly bumping into each other, and honestly, the kitchen setup is better than most apartments I’ve lived in. The shower situation doesn’t turn into a morning bottleneck, which if you’ve traveled with a big group, you know is basically a miracle. Check-in was straightforward too – none of that awkward waiting around for someone to show up with keys. I will say the stairs are a bit of a workout if you’re on one of the upper floors, but that’s pretty standard for these old Riga buildings, and the trade-off is those gorgeous high ceilings that make everything feel more spacious. The 9.1 rating isn’t just people being nice – this place actually delivers on what it promises, and in a city where you can easily end up in some pretty sketchy accommodations, that’s worth something.
