The neighborhood has this sort of residential feel – a few local shops, a small grocery store that’s actually open decent hours, and you’ll see more locals than tourists walking around, which I always take as a good sign.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making things work for travelers. The front desk guy – I think his name was Andris – knew exactly which tram lines would get me downtown fastest, and he actually drew a little map showing me where to catch the number 22 tram (it’s literally a three-minute walk from the hotel). The rooms themselves are clean and functional without trying too hard to be something they’re not. The beds are comfortable enough that I slept through the night, the shower has decent water pressure, and there’s enough space to spread out your luggage without feeling cramped. Sure, the décor won’t win any design awards, but honestly, after a day of traveling, I just wanted a place that felt calm and organized – and this delivered on that front. The free WiFi actually works well throughout the building, which you can’t always count on. One small thing that stuck with me was how they’d left a small bottle of water in the room, along with a simple map of Riga with some handwritten notes about local restaurants. It’s those little touches that make you feel like someone’s actually thought about what a traveler might need, rather than just checking boxes on a corporate checklist. With an 8.7 rating, it’s clearly working for a lot of people, and I can see why – it’s the kind of place that does the basics really well without any pretense.
