Trendy Top-Floor Stay in Heart of Riga, Near Bars & Culture
So I stayed at this place on Lāčplēša iela last month, and honestly? It’s one of those spots that grows on you. The name’s a bit of a mouthful – “Trendy Top-Floor Stay in Heart of Riga” – but it actually delivers on that promise. You’re literally on the top floor of this renovated building, and I mean, the views over Riga’s rooftops are pretty spectacular, especially at sunset when the whole old town glows this warm orange.
The location is what really sold me though. Lāčplēša street is this perfect sweet spot – you’re close enough to walk to all the good stuff but far enough from the tourist crowds that you feel like you’re living in the actual city. There’s this fantastic little café called MiiT Coffee just two blocks down that does proper flat whites (rare find in Riga, trust me), and you’re maybe a 10-minute walk from Berga Bazārs if you want to do some shopping. The bars situation is legit too – Folkklubs ALA Pagrabs is practically around the corner, and if you’re into craft beer, Labietis is close enough that you’ll probably end up there multiple times.
What I really appreciated was how the place felt lived-in rather than sterile. The apartment itself is definitely trendy – exposed brick, industrial lighting, that whole aesthetic – but it’s comfortable trendy, not Instagram-trendy, you know? The bed was actually good (I’m picky about mattresses), and the kitchen had everything I needed to make proper breakfast instead of hunting for overpriced hotel food. The Wi-Fi was solid, which matters when you’re trying to work remotely. One small thing though – the building’s entrance is a bit tricky to find at first, especially at night, so don’t be surprised if you walk past it once or twice. And while the neighborhood is generally quiet, Friday nights can get a bit lively since there are several bars nearby, but honestly, that’s part of the charm.
The whole experience felt authentic in a way that a lot of places don’t anymore. You’re staying in a real neighborhood where people actually live, not some sanitized hotel district. I’d grab groceries at the Rimi down the street, walk through Kronvalda park in the mornings, and felt like I was getting a genuine slice of Riga life rather than just checking boxes on a tourist itinerary. The 8.2 rating makes sense – it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and in a location that actually enhances your stay rather than just providing a bed. If you’re the type who wants to experience a city rather than just visit it, this place hits that mark perfectly.
