— The hotel
The perfect studio , We accept travelers only
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “The perfect studio” on Avotu iela, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, calling yourself “perfect” is setting the bar pretty high, right? But walking into this little gem tucked away in what locals call the Torņakalns area, I actually got it. The place has this incredibly cozy vibe that immediately makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s apartment rather than some sterile hotel room.
The studio itself is exactly what you’d want for a few nights in Riga – clean, thoughtfully laid out, and honestly better equipped than my own kitchen back home. What really struck me was how the owner clearly designed this space for actual travelers, not just tourists passing through. There’s proper counter space for spreading out your stuff, good lighting for reading (you know how rare that is in budget places), and – this might sound small but trust me – really decent water pressure in the shower. The whole setup just works, and you can tell someone who actually travels put thought into every detail. I particularly loved the big windows that let in tons of natural light, though fair warning – if you’re a super light sleeper, there’s a bit of street noise in the early morning when people are heading to work.
What makes this place special though is the location. Avotu iela might not ring a bell if you’re not familiar with Riga, but it’s perfectly positioned between the Old Town buzz and the more residential Torņakalns neighborhood. You’re literally a 10-minute walk to the Daugava River, and honestly, some of the best cafes in the city are within a few blocks – there’s this little bakery called Maize that locals queue up at every morning. The area feels authentically Latvian without being touristy, if that makes sense. Plus, parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the city center, which is huge if you’re driving. The tram stop is right there too, so getting around is actually easier than staying in the thick of things. I stayed there in late spring and the whole neighborhood had this lovely, lived-in energy – people walking their dogs, kids playing in the small parks nearby. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing real Riga life, not just checking tourist boxes. And honestly, with a 9.7 rating, I’m surprised it’s not booked solid – though maybe that’s because they’re selective about only accepting travelers rather than party groups, which probably keeps the vibe exactly as good as it is.
