The stadium they mention is Skonto Stadium, and if you’re into football or just curious about Soviet-era sports architecture, it’s worth a peek. What I really loved though was being in a neighborhood where you hear more Latvian and Russian than English — feels like the real Riga, you know?

Getting Around

The tram connection into Old Town takes about 15 minutes, which isn’t bad at all. There’s parking available if you’ve rented a car (I’d recommend it for day trips to Sigulda or Jūrmala), and the local shops are walkable. The Daugava River is close enough for evening strolls, and I found this great little café called Miit that serves proper Latvian coffee just a few blocks away — the kind of spot you’d never find if you stayed in the tourist zone.
