— The hotel
Studio with Great Old Town Location
You know what struck me first about this little studio on Pasta iela? The location is absolutely perfect if you want to be right in the thick of Riga’s Old Town without paying those crazy hotel prices. I mean, you’re literally steps away from all the cobblestone streets and medieval architecture, but tucked away on a quiet side street that most tourists never even notice. The building itself has that classic Riga charm – you know, the kind where you walk through an unassuming entrance and suddenly you’re in this courtyard that feels like a secret.
The studio is exactly what it says on the tin – compact but honestly quite clever with the space. The owners clearly know what travelers actually need because there’s a proper little kitchenette (not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation) and the bed is surprisingly comfortable. I was a bit skeptical about the “great location” claim at first, but after staying there, I get it. You can walk to Doma Square in maybe three minutes, and all those gorgeous Art Nouveau buildings on Alberta iela are just a pleasant stroll away. What really sold me though was how quiet it gets at night – Old Town can be pretty lively, especially during summer evenings, but Pasta iela stays relatively peaceful. The windows are decent quality too, which helps with any street noise.
Actually, the best part might be how the owners seem to genuinely care about the place. Check-in was smooth, they left some local recommendations that were actually useful (not just the obvious tourist traps), and when I had a question about parking – because let’s be real, driving in Old Town is a nightmare – they sorted it out quickly. The wifi worked perfectly, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings. Sure, it’s not fancy – there’s no lobby or concierge service or anything like that – but it’s clean, functional, and feels more like staying in a friend’s apartment than a sterile hotel room. For the price point, especially considering you’re basically living in the heart of one of Europe’s most beautiful old cities, it’s honestly hard to beat. Plus, there’s something kind of nice about having your own little space to retreat to after a day of wandering around the cathedral and all those winding medieval streets.
