But this little spot on Penkules iela actually surprised me in the best way possible. The owner clearly knows that most travelers are coming straight from Riga Airport and just want something simple that works, and honestly? That’s exactly what this delivers.

The location is pretty clever if you know Riga at all. Penkules iela is in this quiet residential area that’s far enough from the Old Town chaos but still totally manageable – you can catch a tram or bus into the center without any drama, and there’s actually a decent grocery store about two blocks away (which, you know what, matters more than you’d think when you’re settling in somewhere new). The building itself is one of those solid Soviet-era blocks that’s been nicely updated, so you get the charm of thick walls that actually keep noise out, plus modern touches that make everything work properly. The studio itself is small but thoughtfully laid out – whoever designed this actually understood that travelers need space to open a suitcase and a decent shower, not just a bed crammed into a closet.

But here’s what really won me over: the airport transfer thing isn’t just some marketing gimmick. The owner actually coordinates with you beforehand, shows up on time, and during that 20-minute drive from the airport, you get this informal orientation about the neighborhood. I mean, it’s not a tour or anything, but you learn where the nearest ATM is, which restaurant stays open late, that sort of practical stuff. The 9.8 rating makes sense when you experience this kind of attention to detail – it’s not fancy, but everything just works smoothly. The WiFi is solid (I was working remotely part of the time), the shower has actual water pressure, and the bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with a sore back. Plus, and this might sound silly, but the windows face east so you get nice morning light without the harsh afternoon sun beating in during summer. Sometimes it’s the small things that make a place feel right, you know?

  Host was welcoming and friendly, kitchen full equiped, place – clean and cosy.
  We were surprised that there was a mini bar with snacks and drinks, my son and husband appreciate it very much 🙂
