You know what caught me off guard about Skyview Retreat? The name actually makes sense – and I mean that as a compliment, because half the time these hotel names are complete nonsense. But honestly, when you’re up in one of their higher floor rooms on Anniņmuižas iela, you really do get these surprising glimpses of Riga’s skyline that most people miss when they’re staying right in the Old Town crush.

The location is sort of perfect if you ask me, especially if you’re the type who likes to feel like you’re staying where actual Rigans live rather than in tourist central. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the heart of things (or a quick tram ride if you’re feeling lazy), but you’re tucked away in this quieter residential stretch where you can actually hear yourself think. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense feel – it’s a 3-star place that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to pretend otherwise. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overenthusiastic “welcome to paradise” stuff that makes you want to hide.

What really won me over was the attention to small things that actually matter when you’re traveling. The rooms are clean in that genuinely clean way, not just surface-level tidy, and the beds are properly comfortable – I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up confused about what country you’re in. The staff seems to get that travelers want helpful information without feeling like they’re being sold something every five minutes. Parking is available, which honestly is a huge relief in this part of Riga where street parking can be a bit of a nightmare during busy periods. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after evening hours, so if you’re someone who needs actual silence to sleep (guilty), you’ll appreciate that. I did notice the walls could be a tiny bit thicker – you might catch the occasional conversation from next door, but nothing that would keep you awake unless you’re an incredibly light sleeper. The whole place just feels… reliable, I guess? Like they’ve figured out what works and stick with it rather than constantly changing things around.
