Pretty Little Stay – Cozy Studio in Central Riga
You know what caught me off guard about Pretty Little Stay? The moment I walked in, it felt like stepping into someone’s actual apartment rather than a typical hotel room – and I mean that in the best possible way. The studio sits right on Matīsa iela, which honestly is one of those streets that perfectly captures what I love about staying in Riga. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the tourist crowds that you get to see how locals actually live.
The space itself is surprisingly well thought out for a studio. I’ve stayed in plenty of these compact places where everything feels crammed together, but whoever designed this one actually gets how people move through a space. The kitchenette has everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the Rimi down the street (there’s also a great little bakery about three blocks over that does incredible rye bread – locals line up there on weekend mornings). The bed is comfortable enough that I actually slept better than I expected, and the windows let in that soft northern light that makes even gray Riga days feel cozy. There’s decent wifi too, which matters if you’re trying to work remotely or just need to figure out your next day’s plans.
What really sets this place apart is the location knowledge you get just by staying here. You’re a quick walk to the central market, but you’re also close to some of the residential areas where you can wander around and stumble onto those little corner cafes that don’t make it into guidebooks. The building itself is quiet – I was worried about street noise, but Matīsa iela doesn’t get crazy traffic, and the windows do a good job of keeping things peaceful. Check-in was straightforward, no weird complications or confusing key situations. The whole experience just felt… easy, I guess? Like someone took time to think about what actually makes a short-term stay work well. It’s not fancy – this is definitely a 3-star situation – but it’s the kind of place where you settle in quickly and start planning your next trip back to Riga before you’ve even checked out.
