Perfectly Located Old Town Studio
You know what struck me first about this place? The address – Pasta iela 6 29 – sounds like it should be in Little Italy, but honestly, that’s just perfect for this charming studio right in the heart of Riga’s Old Town. I mean, when I say “heart,” I’m talking about being so close to the cobblestone streets that you can actually hear the clip-clop of tourist shoes in the morning (but not annoyingly so – the windows are surprisingly good at keeping things peaceful when you want to sleep in).
The thing about staying here is that you’re literally a two-minute walk from Dome Square, which sounds touristy until you realize that means you can grab fresh bread from the little bakery near the cathedral before the tour groups even wake up. The studio itself is exactly what you’d expect from a 3-star place, but somehow it punches above its weight – I think it’s because whoever runs this place actually cares about the details. The coffee machine works properly (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case), there’s enough counter space to spread out your breakfast, and the bed is comfortable without being fancy. It’s got that lived-in feeling that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-loved apartment rather than a sterile hotel room.
What really won me over, though, is the location knowledge you get just by being there. The building sits on this quiet stretch where you can walk to pretty much everything – the Central Market is about a 10-minute stroll, and if you’re into the nightlife scene, you’re close enough to Elizabetes iela that you can stumble home safely but far enough away that you won’t hear the weekend crowds. Plus, and this is something I only figured out after a couple of days, there’s this tiny courtyard behind the building where you can sit with a beer in the evening when the Old Town gets too packed with tourists. The neighbors are mostly locals, so you get these little moments of real Riga life – kids playing, someone practicing violin (badly, but charmingly), the smell of someone’s grandmother’s cooking drifting down from an upper floor.
I’ll be honest, the shower could use a bit more pressure, and the wifi gets spotty during peak hours, but those are pretty minor gripes when you’re paying reasonable rates to wake up in one of Europe’s most beautiful medieval centers. The 9.7 rating isn’t just inflated politeness – it’s because this place delivers on the promise of being “perfectly located” without feeling like you’re trapped in a tourist bubble. Whether you’re here for a romantic weekend or just want to explore the city properly, you’ll find yourself coming back to this little studio feeling like you’ve discovered something special that most visitors miss.
