You know what struck me first about Marijas Designer Apartment? The name actually undersells it. I mean, yeah, it’s beautifully designed with clean lines and that Nordic-meets-Baltic aesthetic, but what really gets you is how it sits right in the sweet spot of Riga’s rhythm. You’re on Marijas iela, which honestly feels like the city’s best-kept secret – close enough to hear the Old Town’s evening buzz if you crack the window, but tucked away enough that you’ll actually sleep through the night.

The fourth-floor location is perfect, actually. High enough to catch glimpses of the city’s gorgeous Art Nouveau rooftops (and trust me, Riga has some of the world’s best), but you won’t be huffing up endless stairs with your luggage. The apartment itself has this thoughtful, lived-in quality that makes you wonder if the designer actually stays here sometimes. Everything works – and I mean everything, which isn’t always a given in converted historic buildings. The kitchen has proper coffee gear, not those tiny hotel pods, and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that makes you want to extend your stay just for the morning routine.

What really sells this place though is how it plugs you into real Riga life. There’s this little bakery around the corner on Dzirnavu that locals line up at around 8 AM (get the rye bread, seriously), and you’re maybe a seven-minute walk from Vermanes Garden if you need to decompress from city exploring. The Central Market is close enough for a proper wander, but you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds right outside your door. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area – street spots are hit or miss, but there’s a garage about two blocks away that’s worth the peace of mind. The 9.3 rating makes complete sense once you’re there for a night or two. It’s not trying to be a five-star hotel experience, but it nails what it is: a genuinely comfortable, well-thought-out space that feels like borrowing a friend’s apartment – if that friend had excellent taste and actually cared about details like good lighting and decent WiFi. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the building’s old (which is part of the charm), so you’ll hear some creaking and the occasional footstep from upstairs, but nothing that keeps you awake unless you’re an incredibly light sleeper.
