Marijas Apartment with Comfort for 5
You know what caught me off guard about Marijas Apartment? It’s actually way more spacious than you’d expect for central Riga. I mean, when I first walked up to the fourth floor on Marijas iela – no elevator, just so you know – I was thinking this might be another cramped European apartment situation. But honestly, once you step inside, it’s like someone waved a magic wand and created room for five people without making anyone feel like they’re sleeping in a closet.
The location is pretty brilliant if you know Riga at all. Marijas street sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to Old Town to walk there in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds stumbling around at 2 AM. There’s this great little bakery two blocks down that locals actually use – you’ll smell it in the mornings when you open the windows. The apartment itself has this lived-in comfort that I really appreciate; the furniture doesn’t look like it was picked from a hotel catalog, and there are actually books on the shelves (some in English, surprisingly). The kitchen is properly equipped too, not just for show – I’m talking real knives, decent pots, the works.
What really sold me on the place was the attention to details that matter when you’re traveling with a group. The beds are comfortable enough that nobody’s complaining about their back, there’s solid WiFi throughout (tested it during a work call), and the bathroom setup doesn’t create morning bottlenecks. The host clearly gets what travelers need – there are extra towels, the heating actually works properly, and they’ve got blackout curtains that’ll save you from those brutal Baltic summer sunrises. Parking can be a bit tricky in this neighborhood, but there’s usually street parking within a block or two if you’re patient. I’d honestly recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience Riga like a local rather than a tourist – you’re staying in a real neighborhood, you’ve got space to spread out, and that 9.7 rating isn’t just hype. It’s earned.
