Lacplesa Downtown New 2-bedroom Apartment
You know what caught me off guard about this place? It’s actually quiet. I mean, you’re literally on Lāčplēša iela – which is basically one of those streets where everything happens in central Riga – but somehow the apartment sits back just enough that you’re not dealing with tram noise all night. The building itself is one of those turn-of-the-century Riga gems that’s been properly renovated, so you get the high ceilings and original hardwood floors without the drafty windows and questionable plumbing.
The two-bedroom setup works really well if you’re traveling with friends or family. I stayed here with my sister last spring, and honestly, having that extra space made all the difference after spending days wandering around the Old Town. The kitchen is small but functional – I mean, you can actually cook a decent meal if you want to save some euros instead of eating out every night. The owner clearly put thought into the details; there’s decent WiFi (which matters if you’re working remotely), proper blackout curtains, and the shower pressure is surprisingly good. What I really appreciated was the washing machine – after a week of traveling around the Baltics, being able to do laundry was a game-changer.
Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk to the Old Town, which is perfect because you can stumble home after trying all those craft beer places on Gertrūdes iela without paying for a taxi. The neighborhood has this great mix of locals and visitors – there’s a solid grocery store (Rimi) literally around the corner, and you’ll find yourself walking past the same coffee shop every morning where the baristas actually remember your order. I’d say the area gets busier during summer evenings, especially on weekends, but it’s more of a pleasant buzz than anything disruptive. The 8.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not fancy enough to be a boutique hotel experience, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re looking for something that feels more like staying in a local’s apartment than a tourist accommodation, this spot gets it right.
