You know what struck me first about Just Chill? The name actually fits – and I mean that in the best way possible. This place sits on Īslīces iela, which honestly feels like one of those quiet Rīga streets that locals love but tourists somehow miss. It’s tucked away from the main drag, so you’re not dealing with the constant hum of traffic or groups of stag parties stumbling past your window at 3 AM (trust me, that’s a real thing in central Rīga).

The whole vibe here is refreshingly low-key for a city that can sometimes feel like it’s trying too hard to impress visitors. I stayed here twice – once in early spring when the weather was still pretty miserable, and again in summer when Rīga actually shows off a bit. Both times, the staff had this genuine laid-back approach that made check-in feel more like visiting a friend’s place than dealing with hotel bureaucracy. The rooms aren’t going to win any design awards, but they’re thoughtfully put together – good lighting for actually reading, decent water pressure (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always guaranteed in three-star places), and windows that actually open properly. Small thing, but you’d be surprised how often that last part gets overlooked.

What really sold me on this place was the location – it’s in Torņakalns, which feels like real Rīga rather than tourist Rīga. There’s this amazing little market about a ten-minute walk away where you can grab actual fresh produce and local stuff without the Old Town markup. The tram stop is practically outside your door, so getting to the center takes maybe fifteen minutes, but you’re staying somewhere that feels authentic. I mean, my neighbors were clearly locals heading to work, not other travelers taking Instagram photos of their breakfast. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you spend a night or two here – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just doing everything right without making a big deal about it. Plus, parking is actually manageable in this area, which anyone who’s driven in Rīga will tell you is basically a small miracle.
