Janne Hotel with Self Check-in
First Impressions
Janne Hotel with Self Check-in caught me completely off guard — and I mean that in the best way possible. Walking up to this boutique property on Pilsoņu iela, you’d never guess what’s waiting inside from the understated exterior. The self check-in concept initially made me skeptical (honestly, I’m old-school about hotel service), but it actually works brilliantly here and sets the tone for the entire stay.
The Neighborhood Vibe
The location in Riga is what locals would call “perfectly positioned” — you’re close enough to Old Town that you can walk there in about 15 minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds right outside your window. Pilsoņu iela has this authentic residential feel that gives you a real taste of how Rigans actually live. There’s a fantastic bakery just two blocks down that the hotel staff (when you do meet them) will quietly recommend.
Your Space
The room I stayed in felt more like a carefully curated apartment than a typical hotel setup. Everything’s been thoughtfully designed — from the locally-sourced artwork to the surprisingly comfortable bed that doesn’t look like it came from a hotel supply catalog. The kitchenette is compact but genuinely functional, which matters if you’re staying more than a couple nights or just want to store some of those incredible Latvian cheeses from the Central Market.
The Self Check-in Experience
Here’s what actually happens: you get detailed instructions before arrival, and the whole process takes maybe three minutes. No waiting around a lobby, no awkward small talk when you’re jet-lagged — just grab your key and head up. The system feels modern without being impersonal, and there’s always someone available by phone if things go sideways. I’ll admit, it grew on me quickly, especially after a long travel day when you just want to get settled.
Why Guests Love It
This place has that rare quality of feeling both independent and professional at the same time. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well. You’re getting genuine character (something that’s harder to find in Riga’s hotel scene than you’d expect) without sacrificing the basics like reliable Wi-Fi and hot water. Plus, that self check-in thing? It’s oddly liberating once you get used to it.
