Hotel Kert FREE PARKING Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hotel Kert on Hospitāļu iela, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. The name literally has “FREE PARKING” in it, which honestly made me chuckle. But you know what? Sometimes the places that don’t try too hard to impress you end up being exactly what you need.
The location is actually pretty smart if you know Riga at all. Hospitāļu street puts you right in that sweet spot between the Old Town tourist madness and the more residential Centrs district – close enough to walk to the cathedral and all that medieval stuff, but far enough that you’re not hearing drunk bachelor parties stumbling over cobblestones at 2 AM. I mean, you’ll still get some city noise (it’s not the countryside), but nothing that decent earplugs can’t handle. The free parking thing isn’t just a gimmick either – finding a spot in central Riga can be a real headache, especially during summer when everyone’s doing the Baltic capitals tour. Here, you just pull up and you’re done.
What really won me over was how the staff actually seemed to care about getting things right. The check-in was smooth, none of that “your room isn’t ready even though it’s 4 PM” nonsense. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re clean and functional without trying to be something they’re not. The beds are comfortable enough (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms have that renovated-but-not-fancy vibe. You get good water pressure, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when you’ve been walking around Riga’s Old Town all day. The WiFi actually works throughout the building – I tested it because I had some work calls to make, and it held up fine even during what seemed like busy evening hours.
Here’s the thing that surprised me most: the breakfast spread was way better than I expected for a place like this. I mean, it’s not going to win any awards, but there’s proper coffee, decent pastries, and they even had some local touches that showed someone was paying attention to details. The dining area gets good morning light, which is nice when you’re planning your day over coffee. And speaking of planning – the front desk people actually know the city. When I asked about getting to the Central Market without dealing with tourist traps, they gave me solid walking directions and even mentioned which vendors had the best prices on amber (apparently it matters more than I thought).
The 8.5 rating makes sense once you stay here. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Riga, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. For the price point, especially with parking included, it’s honestly hard to beat if you want a solid base for exploring the city. Just don’t expect a spa or a rooftop bar – this is about getting comfortable, practical accommodation in a city that can be surprisingly expensive if you’re not careful about where you stay.

What could be improved: Bolt food delivery drivers can't find it.Great New Year's stay – Inga from Lithuania – 15 January 2025 (10/10)
Good location, excellent host, I really enjoyed the large bath in the bathroom. The room was clean, had a TV and a balcony.
We really appreciated that our Belgian Malinois was welcome as well.
What could be improved: Everything was great.A very enjoyable stay😃 – Paula from Poland – 11 October 2024 (10/10)
My sister and I stayed at this hotel for two nights. We flew from Poland to Riga for the 30 Second to Mars show which took place at Arena do Rīga. I consider the stay at the hotel to be very good.
We had a 15-minute walk to Arena do Rīga. The room was clean and very friendly😌The lady at the reception was very nice and helpful🙂She provided an iron and scissors which I did not have but needed🙏🏻😌Great stay in Riga with my dog – Lonija from Italy – 27 July 2024 (10/10)
Clean, good location, pet friendly (with extra fee)
What could be improved: I liked everything for the value of the moneyNice quiet hotel – Adriana from Netherlands – 11 July 2024 (9/10)
It was very quiet. Located 25 min walk from old town. 15 min walk from arena. Could make coffee, tea etc. Big supermarket close by and a gas station next door where you also could buy all you need.
What could be improved: Bed was ok, but mattress was thin so in the morning felt my hipVery good – Aneli from Estonia – 8 July 2024 (8/10)
Room was clean and comfortable, as shown of pictures. Suitable for family. Had a small kitchenette with all things necesary to make tea/coffee and cook basic meals.
Nice secure and private parking.Staff was friendly.
What could be improved: Had no air conditioning. Second storey room was hot and stuffy and not even opening the window helped. They didn't have a baby cot for my 3-year-old, so we had to take our own. The room didn't have an extra blanket though. After we checked in, the receptionist left the hotel for the evening, so had no chance to ask for the blanket – had to improvise.
Also, have to say, the neighbourhood didn't look nice, surrounded by old run-down buildings.Good place for one night! – Matas from Lithuania – 11 May 2024 (7/10)
Free private parking space in hotel territory.
Staff was a huge bonus!
Circle K gas station is just around the corner (metal door on hotel building corner, then go down the stairs).
Its a good place to stay for one night, fill up the tank and grab a coffee and go explore Latvia.
What could be improved: Poor sound isolation. You hear everything whats happening in corridor or walkings in the upper room.Would stay again. – David from United Kingdom – 28 October 2023 (7/10)
Very friendly staff.
What could be improved: Front desk not manned very often.A bit far from the center but access is easy with the tramway – Laurent from France – 26 August 2023 (7/10)
Proximity to the tramway. The kitchen. Free parking
What could be improved: The bed rugs and the armchair were stained, the room #1 has windows giving on a sad and narrow backyard.
