Heart of Saint Peter Apartments
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Riga apartments, and the Heart of Saint Peter really gets it right. The location on Audēju iela is honestly perfect – you’re literally steps from the cobblestone maze of Old Town, but tucked away enough that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling past your windows at 3 AM. I mean, you can walk to the House of the Blackheads in maybe two minutes, and St. Peter’s Church (hence the name, I assume) is right there looming over everything.
What struck me first was how these apartments actually feel like, well, apartments – not hotel rooms trying to be homey. The building itself has that solid pre-war Latvian character, thick walls that keep things quiet, and the kind of architectural details that make you want to run your fingers along the moldings. The owners clearly put thought into the layout because everything just works. Kitchen’s got proper counter space (rare in European apartments, honestly), and the wifi actually reaches every corner – tested it myself while working from the little dining nook. You know what’s refreshing? No weird hotel carpet smell, no plastic key cards that stop working, just real keys and hardwood floors that creak in a charming way, not an annoying way.
The neighborhood vibe is something else entirely. You’ve got the morning bustle of locals heading to work mixing with the first wave of tourists, and by evening it settles into this perfect rhythm where you can grab dinner at one of the traditional Latvian spots on nearby streets or just pick up groceries at the Rimi down the block. Parking can be tricky – I’d recommend the lot near the Daugava if you’re driving, but honestly, once you’re settled here, you won’t need a car. The trams run frequently, and everything worth seeing is walkable. Plus, there’s something magical about stepping out your door and being surrounded by medieval architecture that’s been standing since before Columbus sailed anywhere. The apartments earn their stellar rating because they nail the details that matter – good water pressure, blackout curtains that actually block light, and heating that responds quickly (crucial during those Baltic winters). It’s the kind of place where you start planning your return visit before you’ve even checked out.
