Walking up to Haffelberg House on Jauniela street, you immediately sense you’ve found something special. This four-star boutique hotel sits on one of Riga‘s most charming cobblestone streets in the Old Town, and honestly, the location alone would sell me on it. The building itself has this understated elegance — not flashy, but you can tell someone put real thought into every detail.
The Neighborhood Charm
Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re literally steps from Riga Castle and the Daugava River, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with tour groups tramping past your window at 7 AM. Jauniela is actually one of those streets locals still use, so you’ll see people heading to work in the morning rather than just tourists with cameras. There’s a cozy café about two minutes away where I grabbed coffee most mornings, and the walk to Town Hall Square takes maybe five minutes through these incredible medieval streets.
The Room Experience
My room was on the second floor — well, what Europeans call the first floor — and I was surprised by how spacious it felt. You’ve got original wooden beams overhead, but the bathroom is completely updated with excellent water pressure (trust me, this matters after a day of walking on cobblestones).
