Grecinieku Old Town Two Bedroom Apartment
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place on Grēcinieku iela, but this two-bedroom apartment completely changed my mind about staying in Riga’s Old Town. I mean, the building itself is one of those beautifully restored medieval structures that you walk past a hundred times before realizing there’s actually a gem hiding inside. The entrance is pretty understated – you’d honestly miss it if you weren’t looking for number 26 – but once you climb those narrow stairs (and yeah, there’s no elevator, so pack light), you’re in for a pleasant surprise.
The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room, which I absolutely loved. The two bedrooms are properly sized – not those cramped European “double beds” that barely fit one person – and the living area has this great mix of modern comfort and old-world charm. The kitchen is actually functional too, which is rare for these Old Town rentals. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because honestly, the tourist restaurants right around the corner charge crazy prices for mediocre food. But here’s the thing about the location – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Town Hall Square, yet tucked away enough that you don’t get the drunk bachelor party groups stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The street itself is pretty quiet, especially during weekdays, though you’ll hear some footsteps on the cobblestones in the evenings when people are heading to dinner.
What really sold me on this place was the little details that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. The Wi-Fi is genuinely fast (I was working remotely, so this mattered), there are enough outlets for all your devices, and the shower pressure is surprisingly good for an old building. The host left some local recommendations that were spot-on – especially the bakery on Kalķu iela that opens early and has the best rye bread in the city. Parking is a bit of a nightmare if you’re driving, but that’s true for anywhere in the Old Town, and honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re there anyway. The Central Market is about a fifteen-minute walk, and all the major sights are right at your doorstep. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was traveling with friends or family – having two proper bedrooms and a living space where you can actually spread out makes such a difference after a long day of exploring those winding medieval streets.
