— The hotel
G22 Old Town Apartments
First Impressions
Walking up to G22 Old Town Apartments on Grēcinieku street, you’d honestly never guess what’s waiting inside. The building itself blends right into the medieval charm of Riga’s Old Town — which is exactly the point. Once you step through that unassuming entrance though, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special in this four-star property.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re literally in the heart of everything, but tucked away on a quieter street. The Town Hall Square is maybe a two-minute walk, and you can hit Dome Cathedral in about the same time. I mean, you’re surrounded by those gorgeous Art Nouveau buildings that Riga’s famous for, plus all the cobblestone streets and medieval architecture you came to see. The best part? You can actually walk everywhere from here, so forget about figuring out public transport.
The Apartments
These aren’t your typical hotel rooms — each apartment feels like someone’s stylish city flat that they’ve let you borrow for a few days. The spaces are genuinely spacious (rare for Old Town properties, trust me), and each one comes with a proper kitchen setup. You know what’s nice? Having the option to grab some local ingredients from the Central Market and actually cook something, or just make coffee the way you like it in the morning.
Thoughtful Details
The design strikes this perfect balance between modern comfort and respecting the building’s historic character. Original wooden beams, contemporary furniture — it works really well together. What impressed me most was how quiet everything stays, despite being right in the tourist zone. The staff manages to be helpful without being hovering, and they actually know the neighborhood well enough to point you toward the spots locals go to.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s the kind of place where you get the independence of having your own space, but with all the backup support of a proper hotel when you need it. Plus, there’s something pretty satisfying about having a local address right in the UNESCO World Heritage part of the city — you feel like you’re living in Riga rather than just passing through it.
