You know what caught me off guard about this little place on Lāčplēša? It’s one of those spots that doesn’t look like much from the street, but once you’re inside apartment 11, it actually feels like someone’s cool friend let you crash at their perfectly organized pad. The building itself is classic Riga – you’ll hear your footsteps echo a bit on the wooden stairs, and there’s that particular old-apartment smell that’s not unpleasant, just… European, if you know what I mean.

The studio is honestly way more thoughtfully laid out than I expected. I mean, when you hear “compact,” you brace yourself for cramped, but whoever set this up really understood how to use the space. The bed doesn’t dominate the room, there’s actually a proper area to sit and eat (not just perched on the bed like some places), and the kitchenette has everything you’d actually need – not just a mini-fridge and a prayer. The whole JRT thing in the name refers to the Jaunā Rīgas Teātra, which is literally around the corner, so if you’re into theater or just want to feel cultured, you’re golden. But honestly, the real win is being right in the heart of the Art Nouveau district without paying those Old Town tourist prices.

What I really appreciated – and this might sound weird – is how quiet it gets at night despite being on a pretty busy street. The windows are solid, and Lāčplēša calms down after the dinner crowd heads home. You’re a five-minute walk from some genuinely good restaurants (there’s this Georgian place that locals line up for), and about ten minutes to the canal where everyone jogs and walks their dogs. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no hovering or overly complicated instructions, just clear directions and keys that actually work on the first try. It’s not luxury by any stretch, but it’s the kind of place where you settle in by the second day and start planning your next visit to Riga before you’ve even left.
