When I first walked up to number 2, I was honestly a bit skeptical because the building looks pretty standard from the outside, but once you’re inside, it’s got this lived-in warmth that a lot of cookie-cutter hotels just can’t match. The two bedrooms are actually decent sized (and I mean that – not just “decent for Europe” but genuinely roomy), and whoever set this place up clearly thought about how people actually live, not just sleep. You know what I mean? There’s proper closet space, the beds don’t creak when you roll over, and the windows actually open wide enough to get some real air circulation going.

The location is honestly pretty smart if you know Riga at all. Silmaču iela sits in this residential pocket that’s close enough to the action but far enough out that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM. I walked to the Old Town in about 20 minutes – not bad at all – and there’s a decent grocery store maybe five minutes away where you can grab actual food instead of overpriced hotel breakfast. The tram connections are solid too, though I ended up walking most places because, well, Riga’s just not that massive. Parking was surprisingly painless, which anyone who’s driven in European city centers will appreciate. The neighborhood has this quiet, almost suburban feel once evening hits, but during the day there’s enough local life happening that you don’t feel like you’re staying in some sterile business district.

What really sold me on the place was the little details that suggest someone actually lives here sometimes, or at least cares about it. The kitchen has proper knives (not those useless hotel butter knives), there’s a coffee maker that works without mysterious button combinations, and the shower pressure is – honestly – better than half the four-star places I’ve stayed at. The WiFi held up fine even when I was video calling back home, and the heating system doesn’t sound like it’s launching rockets every time it kicks in. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the furnishings are sort of that universal modern-but-not-too-modern style, but everything works and feels intentional. I mean, for a 3-star rating and that price point, you’re getting way more space and comfort than you’d find in a traditional hotel room downtown. It’s the kind of place where you can actually spread out, cook a proper meal if you want, and not feel like you’re living out of a suitcase.

  Asunnon haltija vastasi nopeasti kysymyksiin.
  Kaksi makuuhuonetta oli myös plussaa.
  Avainboxi kätevä, koska tulimme myöhään.
