Comfortable Studio in Historic Center
You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first saw this place listed as just a “comfortable studio” – I mean, that could mean anything, right? But walking up to Pasta iela 6, tucked right in the heart of Rīga’s Old Town, I actually got excited. The building itself has that weathered Baltic charm you see everywhere in the historic center, and you’re literally surrounded by those narrow cobblestone streets that make you feel like you’ve stepped back a few centuries.
The studio itself is exactly what it promises – comfortable, no frills, but genuinely thoughtful about what travelers actually need. The space feels bigger than you’d expect, probably because whoever set it up didn’t cram it full of unnecessary furniture. There’s this nice natural light that comes in during the day (though honestly, in winter you’ll take whatever daylight you can get in Latvia), and the bed is actually decent – not one of those saggy European mattresses that leave you wondering if you should’ve splurged on a hotel chain. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re right in the center of everything. The old buildings here have thick walls, and Pasta iela doesn’t get the late-night foot traffic that some of the main tourist streets do.
Here’s the thing about the location that you won’t realize until you’re there – you’re about a three-minute walk from the Town Hall Square, but you’re also perfectly positioned to duck into all those little side streets where the actual good restaurants are hiding. I spent half my time just wandering around discovering cafes that definitely don’t make it into guidebooks. The Daugava River is close enough for morning walks, and if you’re into that whole Soviet-era architecture thing, the newer parts of the city are just across the bridge. Parking is… well, it’s Old Town, so don’t expect miracles, but there are a few spots nearby if you’re driving. Most people just walk everywhere anyway – I think I used transportation maybe twice the whole time I was there. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that awkward key-passing situation you sometimes get with these smaller places. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re spending your days exploring Rīga and just need a clean, comfortable base to crash at night.
