City heart, from 9,8 host, loft view, free parking
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The name basically tells you everything – “City heart, from 9,8 host, loft view, free parking” – but honestly, it undersells what you’re getting. I mean, finding a spot in Riga’s center where you can actually park for free is like striking gold, especially on Krišjāņa Valdemāra street where most places charge you an arm and a leg just to leave your car overnight.
The loft setup is actually pretty clever – they’ve converted what feels like an old industrial space into something that’s surprisingly cozy without losing that urban edge. The ceilings are high enough that you don’t feel cramped, and the windows face out toward the city in a way that makes you feel connected to everything happening below. I stayed here during one of those gray Baltic autumn weeks (you know how Riga gets), and even then the light coming through was decent. The host – and I’m guessing this is where that 9.8 rating comes from – really knows their stuff about the neighborhood. They’ll tell you which tram to catch to avoid the tourist crowds at the Old Town, or where to grab proper Latvian breakfast that won’t cost you a fortune. Little things like that matter when you’re trying to get a feel for a place.
What really sealed it for me was the location itself. Valdemāra street puts you right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to Daugava riverfront in about ten minutes, but far enough from the medieval tourist circus that you can actually hear yourself think. The Art Nouveau district is basically on your doorstep – and honestly, Riga’s got some of the best examples in Europe, even if people don’t always realize it. There’s this great little market nearby where locals actually shop (not the touristy Central Market, though that’s worth seeing too), and the coffee scene around there has gotten surprisingly good in recent years. The apartment itself feels more like crashing at a friend’s place than staying in some sterile hotel room – there’s actual personality in the space, real books on the shelves, that kind of thing. Sure, it’s a 3-star setup so don’t expect marble bathrooms or room service, but the basics are solid and the WiFi actually works properly. Sometimes that’s all you need, especially when you’re paying a fraction of what those fancy hotels near the cathedral charge and getting way more authentic experience in return.
