— The hotel
Centrally located Studio apartment
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The moment I stepped out onto Merķeļa iela, I realized I was basically in the heart of everything without the tourist trap chaos. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Old Town’s cobblestone streets, but honestly, the location feels more like where actual Rigans live and work rather than some sterile hotel district.
The studio itself is pretty straightforward – it’s got that clean, minimalist Scandinavian vibe that seems to be everywhere in the Baltics these days. Nothing fancy, but everything you actually need is there. The kitchen setup is surprisingly functional (I managed to make proper coffee every morning, which matters more than you’d think), and the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed – they clearly thought about how to use the space efficiently. One small thing that bugged me initially was the shower pressure, but it’s actually fine once you figure out the European-style mixer tap situation.
What really makes this spot work is the neighborhood itself. You’ve got that little market on the corner where locals grab their groceries, and there’s this fantastic bakery about two blocks down that I stumbled across on my second day – honestly, their rye bread is better than anything I found in the touristy areas. The tram stop is right there too, which is clutch if you want to explore beyond the city center without dealing with parking (don’t even think about trying to park in Old Town during summer, trust me). Evenings are pretty quiet around here – you might hear some street noise during the day since it’s a proper city street, but nothing that kept me awake. The building itself seems solid, and I never had issues with noise from other units.
Check-in was smooth, though it’s one of those self-service situations where they send you codes and instructions via email. Works fine if you’re comfortable with that setup, but if you’re the type who likes talking to an actual person at a front desk, just know that’s not really the vibe here. The area feels safe – I walked around at all hours without any concerns, and there’s decent lighting on the street. You’re close enough to restaurants and bars that you can walk everywhere, but far enough from the party zone that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling around outside your window at 2 AM.
For what you’re paying, especially given that 8.6 rating, it’s solid value. I’ve stayed in pricier places in Riga that were honestly less convenient and definitely less authentic-feeling. This isn’t luxury, but it’s comfortable, practical, and puts you right in the mix of actual city life rather than some sanitized tourist bubble.
