Čaka Street Royal Apartment 42 Overview
So I spent a week at Čaka Street Royal Apartment 42, and honestly? It’s one of those places that surprises you. The building looks pretty standard from the street – you know, typical Rīga architecture on Aleksandra Čaka – but apartment 42 itself has this unexpected charm that grows on you.
The location is actually brilliant if you know Rīga at all. You’re right in the middle of everything but not drowning in tourist crowds. I mean, you can walk to Old Town in about 15 minutes, but you’re also surrounded by where locals actually live and work. There’s this great little market just down the street where I’d grab fresh bread every morning, and the coffee shop on the corner (I think it’s called Mūsu – the barista there makes incredible flat whites) became my daily ritual. The tram stop is literally a two-minute walk, which saved me so much money on taxis. Traffic can get a bit loud during rush hour since Čaka is a main thoroughfare, but it settles down by evening.
What really got me was the apartment itself – it’s got this mix of old-world details and modern comfort that works better than it should. The ceilings are high, probably 12 feet, with these beautiful original moldings that someone clearly took care to preserve. The kitchen is small but functional (I made breakfast there most mornings), and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showerheads that actually has decent water pressure. The bed was comfortable enough, though the pillows were a bit soft for my taste – but that’s just me being picky. Storage space is limited, so if you’re planning to stay longer than a week, you might need to get creative with your packing.
Check-in was smooth – the property manager met me right on time and spoke perfect English, which was helpful since my Latvian is practically nonexistent. She gave me some great local recommendations too, including this hidden gem of a restaurant about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. The WiFi is solid (I was working remotely part of the time), and the heating worked perfectly even during those chilly October evenings.
I’ll be honest – it’s not luxury, and at three stars, it doesn’t pretend to be. But for the price point and that 8.4 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for. The neighborhood has character without being sketchy, you’re close to everything that matters, and the apartment has enough personality to feel like you’re actually staying somewhere special rather than just another generic rental. If you’re the type who wants to experience Rīga like you live there rather than just passing through, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Reviews of Čaka Street Royal Apartment 42
Good – Ervins from Latvia – 26 November 2023 (7/10)
Good place for that kinda value. Shower has low pressure so it’s a bit problematic to use it but everything works. And it was chilly because of poor heating. There was extra oil-heater who need some maintenance 😁 Did not work at all 🙈
