— The hotel
Brivibas Center Apartments
So I’ve stayed at Brivibas Center Apartments a few times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that grows on you. The building itself sits right on Brīvības iela – which, if you don’t know Riga, is basically the main artery running through the city center. You’re literally in the thick of things, but here’s the thing about being on a busy street in Riga: the windows are actually pretty decent at keeping the noise out, though I’d still pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.
What I really like about this place is that it feels more like borrowing someone’s apartment than staying in a hotel. The apartments are properly equipped – I mean, you’ve got a real kitchen with a proper fridge and stove, not those sad little hotel kitchenettes. Perfect if you want to grab groceries from the Rimi down the street and actually cook something decent. The décor is… well, it’s functional rather than Instagram-worthy, but everything works and it’s clean. The shower pressure is surprisingly good too, which honestly matters more than fancy throw pillows when you’ve been walking around Old Town all day.
Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk from the Freedom Monument, and the whole Old Town is right there. But what’s really convenient is that you’re also close to the more local parts of the city – there’s this great little café called Miit just around the corner that most tourists never find, and the Central Market is an easy walk when you want to see how locals actually shop. The trams run right outside, so getting to places like the Art Nouveau district or even out to the beach at Jūrmala is pretty straightforward. Parking can be a bit of a headache during the day (it’s metered street parking mostly), but evenings and weekends aren’t too bad if you’re willing to walk a block or two.
The staff are… well, they’re efficient. Not overly chatty, but they know their stuff and speak good English. Check-in was smooth both times I’ve been there, and when I had an issue with the WiFi once, they sorted it out pretty quickly. The 7.6 rating seems about right to me – it’s not luxury by any means, but for a three-star place, it delivers on what matters. You get space, a real kitchen, and you’re right in the center of things without paying Old Town prices. I mean, you could definitely find prettier places or newer places, but for the money and the location, it’s hard to beat if you want to actually live in the city for a few days rather than just pass through it.
