Ausekla Deluxe Apartment
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Ausekla Deluxe Apartment” on my booking confirmation, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name sounds a bit… well, generic? But actually staying here completely changed my perspective on what a 4-star place in Riga’s Old Town can offer.
The location on Ausekla iela is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the tourist chaos on Kalķu or Valņu streets. You’re literally a 3-minute walk from the Freedom Monument, and I mean a real 3 minutes, not travel website “3 minutes.” The building itself has this quietly elegant thing going on – it’s not flashy, but you can tell someone put thought into the renovation. What really got me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re so close to everything. I mean, sure, you’ll hear some weekend revelry if you keep the windows open, but it’s not like those places right on Livu laukums where you’re basically sleeping in a nightclub.
The apartment itself… honestly, it feels more like staying in a really well-appointed local’s place than a hotel. The kitchen actually works (shocking, I know), and they stock it with decent coffee – not the sad instant stuff you usually get. The bathroom has this rainfall shower that’s genuinely great, though fair warning: the water pressure can be a bit intense first thing in the morning. Storage space is generous too, which you don’t always get in these historic buildings where they’re working around 800-year-old walls. I appreciated little touches like having a proper full-length mirror and enough electrical outlets that I wasn’t constantly unplugging things to charge my phone.
What really sets this place apart is how it bridges that gap between hotel service and apartment independence. There’s daily housekeeping if you want it, but you’re not stuck with hotel breakfast times or worrying about disturbing other guests when you come back from exploring Riga’s surprisingly good late-night food scene. The staff – and I use that term loosely since it feels more like friendly neighbors helping out – genuinely know the neighborhood. They pointed me toward this little bakery on nearby Elizabetes iela that I never would have found otherwise, and suggested the best times to visit St. Peter’s Church when it’s not packed with tour groups.
The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Riga, but it nails what most travelers actually want: a comfortable base that feels authentically local, practical amenities that work properly, and that sweet spot location where you can walk to everything important without feeling like you’re living in a tourist trap. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond the Old Town, the tram stops on Brīvības bulvāris are maybe 5 minutes away, so getting to places like the Art Nouveau district or even the beach at Jūrmala is straightforward.
