You know what struck me first about Apartment Matīsa? It’s one of those places that feels like you’re staying in someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room. The building sits right on Matīsa iela – honestly, if you’re not familiar with Riga, this is a pretty solid residential street that locals actually live on, not some touristy strip. I mean, you’ve got real neighborhood bakeries and small shops within walking distance, which is something you don’t always find with typical hotel locations.

The apartment itself punches way above its 3-star rating – seriously, that 9.4 score makes complete sense once you’re inside. The owners have clearly put thought into the little things that actually matter when you’re traveling. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just for show), the wifi actually works throughout the space, and the beds are comfortable enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a medieval torture device. What really got me though was how quiet it stays, even being on a main street. The windows do their job, and honestly, Matīsa iela isn’t one of those crazy busy roads anyway – it’s got that sweet spot of being connected but not chaotic.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re about a 15-minute walk to Old Town, which sounds far but it’s actually perfect. You avoid the tourist crowds and inflated prices right outside your door, but you can still easily get to all the main sights. The tram stops nearby if you don’t feel like walking, and there’s decent parking if you’re driving (which, let’s be honest, can be a nightmare in central Riga). I also loved that you’re close to some of Riga’s Art Nouveau district – those incredible buildings are just a few streets over, and most tourists never venture past the obvious spots to see them. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that awkward key-passing or complicated instructions. Sometimes the simplest things make the biggest difference when you just want to drop your bags and start exploring.
