Aparthotel Aurum
First Impressions
Walking up to Aparthotel Aurum on Dzirnavu street, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the unassuming facade. But you know what? Sometimes the best places don’t need to shout about it from the outside. This three-star property turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the guidebooks missed.
Location & Getting Around
The location on Dzirnavu is actually pretty smart ā you’re close enough to Riga‘s Old Town to walk there in about fifteen minutes, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds every time you step outside. I found myself using the nearby tram stops quite a bit, and there’s decent parking if you’re driving (which, let’s be honest, can be a real headache in the city center). The area has this nice residential feel with cafes and shops that locals actually use.
The Apartment Experience
What sets this place apart is that you’re getting an apartment, not just a room. Mine had a proper kitchenette ā nothing fancy, but enough to make coffee in the morning or heat up some of those amazing pastries from the bakery down the street. The space felt more like staying in a friend’s place than a hotel, which I mean in the best possible way. Everything was clean and functional, though don’t expect cutting-edge design or anything like that.
Daily Life Here
The staff struck that perfect balance between helpful and not hovering ā they’re there when you need them but otherwise let you do your own thing. I appreciated having my own space to spread out, especially after long days exploring the city. The building itself is quiet, and I actually got some of the best sleep I’ve had in months. There’s something refreshing about having a bit more independence while still having the backup of hotel services when needed.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies. But sometimes that’s exactly what you want ā a solid, well-located place that does the basics really well. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you consider the value you’re getting. You’re paying three-star prices for what feels like a lot more space and freedom than most hotels offer. It’s the kind of place I’d definitely book again, especially for longer stays in Riga.
