When I first walked into Affordable Old Town Loft on Pasta iela, I’ll be honest — the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know. This three-star place isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s actually refreshing in a city where boutique hotels can cost a fortune. The building itself has that authentic Riga charm, tucked away on a quiet street that feels properly local rather than touristy.

Location & Getting Around

You know what I love about this spot? You’re literally a five-minute walk from Cathedral Square, but you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos that comes with staying right in the thick of things. Riga’s Old Town can get pretty lively at night — especially on weekends — so having that little buffer zone is gold. I could easily walk to most of the main sights, and when I needed to venture further out, the tram stops are right there.

The Space Itself

The room I stayed in had this loft-style setup that actually felt more spacious than I expected from the photos. The ceilings are high, and there’s this industrial-meets-cozy vibe going on with exposed brick and modern furnishings that somehow work together. It’s clean, functional, and has everything you need without any unnecessary frills. The Wi-Fi was solid, which matters when you’re trying to plan your next day’s adventures.

Daily Life Here

There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, that’s not really a problem in this location. Some of Riga’s best local eateries are within a couple blocks — I ended up discovering this amazing little place that serves traditional Latvian food just around the corner. The staff gave me a hand-drawn map with their favorite spots marked, which was way more helpful than any glossy brochure. They clearly know the neighborhood well and aren’t shy about sharing their insights.

Why Guests Love It

Look, if you’re expecting marble bathrooms and room service, this isn’t your place. But if you want a clean, comfortable base in one of Europe’s most underrated old towns without breaking the bank, it really delivers. The value here is excellent — I’ve paid twice as much for half the character in other European cities. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than in a generic hotel bubble.
